I would highly recommend this service. My daughter suggested that I try it when I moved house and needed double glazing for a traditional flat in a conservation area. We contacted WAC speculatively for advice on replacement windows in the Hyndland conservation area, after getting a prohibitively expensive quote elsewhere. It was definitely a smart move.

Ken got back to us very quickly, talked through the options and recent changes in legislation that allows different materials to be used while maintaining the appearanceof the original windows, and that expensive planning permission was no longer required. He was able to arrange for someone to come out quickly at a time thst suited us. That someone was George.

George talked through the process with us, explained everything very clearly, from energy efficiency and noise reduction to the tendering process and time scales. He was very knowledgeable and didn’t baffle us with jargon, nor was there any sales pressure.

Once we had decided to go ahead George took measurements and arranged to return with quotes from a competitive tender process. It’s fair to say that our jaws dropped when the quotes came back at less than half the price we had ben given prior to contacting WAC.

Having spent several hours looking into the multitude of variables involved in selecting high quality replacement windows and subsequently visiting the web sites of most of the big double glazing companies we decided that when it came to specifying new windows it was just too easy to make a mistake. We therefore decided to seek independent expert advice and found the Windows Advice Centre (WAC).

From the outset the WAC proved to be far more knowledgeable than I had expected and more importantly were able to communicate their expert advice in a very clear way providing answers and explanations whenever needed.

Our windows have just been fitted this week and we could not be happier with them. While a large part of the credit should go to the contractors who manufactured and installed our new windows an equally large part of the credit goes to the WAC for specifying the windows and helping us find the right contractors.

Ken Hislop and the Window Advice Centre helped us immeasurably to replace the aging windows in our A-listed property with slimline double-glazed windows which satisfied not only the local planning authority, but Glasgow City Heritage Trust as well. Thanks to him, we were able to not only navigate the planning system, but also successfully achieve the conditions that our grant was made conditional upon. I do not think that we would have managed this on our own.

The service Ken provided was exemplary. During his initial visit I was struck by the sheer competence, experience, honesty and passion for his craft that he conveyed. He spoke clearly and articulately about every detail of the windows he was proposing and provided us with a bespoke report with every aspect that he had spoken about. This report ultimately helped to convince Glasgow City Heritage Trust to provide grant assistance with our project.

He helped us to uniquely understand some additional window features that would benefit us based on our location on a main road – for example, additional soundproofing features of the glass that would be used.

Following this, the Window Advice Centre procured three quotes for the fabrication and installation of the windows and advised us upon how to move forward. He and his architectural technician took care of every little detail regarding planning applications and liaised constantly with the Glasgow City Heritage Trust to ensure that every detail of the windows would be to their liking.

We needed double glazing for our nineteenth century home and picked the Window Advice Centre (WAC) from the internet.

We sent a short message asking if they could help us, as we were in the early stages of looking at who and what was available. The response, with a statement of what WAC could do, was sent by return. Within a few days the consultant visited us and within two weeks, returned on a second visit with quotations from seven selected contractors willing and able to do the work.

During the two visits, the consultant explained, in detail, what was recommended for our property. There was no pressure on us and our questions were answered with patience and courtesy.

We had Protection Insurance for our Deposit and as the new windows are now in position and are very satisfactory, we have a Quality Assured National Warranty for the work.
